TV's "Last Choir Standing" competition was the path to fame for the
City of Bath Male Choir and its director Grenville Jones.
After a ‘Help for Heroes’ concert in Wells Cathedral in February, it will appear on local TV with a concert just before the Bath Half Marathon on 7th March.
Then about half of the Choir - including Grenville, who is 61 - will run in the race!
Qualified Coaches. Two sessions at any sport for £5 (Except Braeside - one session for £5 and Horse Riding - £10 for one session)
Lions are members of Lions Clubs International, a community service organisation
dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best
position to know who needs help and why. Local Clubs are part of the world's largest such
organization, with 1.4 million members serving in more than 180 countries and areas of the world. The
association is both non-political and non-sectarian.

All for charity, which is why we in the Devizes Lions Club are pleased that the Choir has agreed to help our own 2010 fund-raising efforts towards our many deserving causes.

The Choir's appearance will be shared by two local performers of remarkable talent.
- Lizz Lipscombe of Bristol brings her own style of atmospheric classical and popular music with acoustic or electric violin.
After classical training at the Royal Academy of Music in London for 5 years she completed an Honours and Master’s degree at Sheffield.
Since moving to Bristol she has ranged from intimate solo performances to international band competitions.
She has performed and recorded with Smokey Robinson, Richard Hawley and Peter Gabriel and appeared on TV for ‘Des and Mel’ and ‘Songs of Praise’.
She enthuses about her recent appearances with the Bath Male Choir, and she looks forward to joining their Devizes concert.
- Sarah Pottinger of Devizes, is a mezzo soprano with a rich tone. Originally from South Wales,
she was the first singer to be awarded Oxford University’s Jacqueline du Pré Music Scholarship.
After Oxford she went on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and she has won operatic and oratorio prizes at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
Since moving to Devizes, Sarah has been teaching singing at Canford School and privately.
She has been heard by relatively few local people, and so ‘Spring Serenade’ is a welcome opportunity to allow more to hear her remarkable talent.
The concert will be at 7.30 on 20th March at the Devizes Corn Exchange. Tickets will be on sale in late January from Devizes Books or from any member of the Lions Club.
